Rivals
Who are the rivals to Hiei and Mukuro? Fandom is rich of many pairings, all of them may be possible to a certain extent… I’ll do some considerations for most of them, but remember that they’re just my personal thoughts.
Rivals to Hiei
Name: Raizen
Raizen has fought against Mukuro for so many hundreds years, but was it only a war for food matters? Has there been something else? Mukuro brought a flower on Raizen’s grave, so she didn’t hate him after all… and Raizen seems to trust Mukuro much more than Yomi (ok, he doesn’t trust Yomi -at all- ^.^). On the other hand, it seems that Raizen is still in love with Yuusuke’s atavic mother even after she died, and probably Mukuro never took off her bendages in front of anyone that wasn’t one of her 77 warriors.
Conclusions: possible but improbable. In any case, since Raizen dies, an hypotetic romance between them will remain a story of the past or good for an AU.
Name: Yomi
Here we can apply some of the considerations made for Raizen, except the fact that Mukuro shows clearly she doesn’t trust Yomi at all, and Yomi doesn’t trust her as well. This makes this couple less probable. Maybe after the Makai Tournment they could gain trust in each other and something can happen……
Conclusions: highly improbable.
Name: Kurama
This couple is kinda rare, but quite interesting, though. Kurama is the most beautiful character of the series, while Mukuro lost her beauty, they’re are both 1000+ years old and are both mysterious characters. Kurama may have met Mukuro when he was still a youko, or maybe they can by chance get to know each other better after the Makai Tournment and then………
Conclusions: quite improbable but yet interesting… especially for a love triangle: Kurama may be the most dangerous rival to his best friend…
Name: Kirin & Shigure
I’m putting them together because the same considerations apply to both. They’re loyal followers of Mukuro, Shigure even kneeled before her before going fighting Kurama in the tournament (and she had disbanded her state, so he shouldn’t have any duty towards her anymore). They truly respect their boss. Being them the only good known characters in Mukuro’s army, they’re the ones that pop out into fanworks more often, especially they’re often found in doujinshi courting their Lady… with disastrous results most times. She never seems to take their interest in her into a big consideration, anyway, because Hiei has still and always her full attention in those doujinshi.
Conclusions: It might be that they’re attracted by their queen… but I think that her being interested in them is a quite remote chance.
Rivals to Mukuro
Name: Kurama
Well, here’s the Rival with the uppercase “R”. ^^ With no doubt we can consider HieixKurama the most widely supported couple of the series. Hiei and Kurama are very close friends, and no one can deny it, but can their relationship go beyond friendship? There are many hints in support, even if there’s no actual proof (if there were, I wouldn’t be here talking about this ^^;). Plus this couple is shounen ai/yaoi, and this makes it more appealing to fangirls. ^.~
Conclusions: more than possible. The two best looking guys of the series together… even if I usually don’t like it that much, it’s a couple good for every kind of fic and art…
Name: Urameshi Yuusuke
Another shounen ai pairing. This rival is taken out of competition by a single word: Keiko. YuusukexKeiko is one of the few -official- couples in the series… ^^; Anyway, in fandom world everything can happen, and if Yuu-chan would lose interest in Keiko-chan could he have a romance with Hiei? Maybe. There are some very cute moments between the two, and a romantic relationship between them isn’t that impossible…
Conclusions: if you don’t consider Keiko I believe this couple could work. I actually have a thing for this pairing… *hides doujinshi* ^///^;; I think they make a really cute pair. Anyway in reality there’s Keiko… so, well, it’s quite improbable… but Keiko-chan is a human and Yuu-chan a youkai, so, maybe in future… *grins*
Name: Botan
A girl, finally! ^^ Many people seem to like the HieixBotan pairing: they’re cute and have opposite personalities, the cheerful and sweet girl and the dark and cold guy. It’s a kind of classic couple… Hiei continuously scares Botan, while she messes up things making him angry, letting the two having some very funny moments. Could there it be love?
Conclusions: possible. HxB is a very kawaii couple, good for funny fics but I guess for every other fic gender too. Outside the shounen ai pairings, Botan is probably the most dangerous rival to Mukuro.
Name: Hinageshi
This character appears only in the YYH movie 2, “Makai Shitou Hen – Honoo no Kizuna”. Many people like this pairing because Hiei saves Hinageshi during the movie, and Hinageshi is one of the few characters shorter than Hiei. ^^ Actually, this pairing is quite improbable (if not crack), but kinda cute, even if it resembles the HxB pairing someway.
Conclusions: difficult to tell, since Hinageshi is a minor character and appears only in the movie… I think it has the same possibilities of the HxB pairing, except for the fact that Botan has much more opportunities to interact with Hiei during the series.
Name: Kuwabara Shizuru
Well, I don’t see many possibilities in this pairing, they don’t interact that much in the series… the interesting point of this couple is that the two have both a cool personality. I never read that much about, anyway, but I know some people like it.
Conclusions: improbable.
Name: Kuwabara Kazuma
For how weird it can look, there are people that like this pairing. ^^; It’s the usual “hate you, love you” game… but, IMHO, I don’t think it could work… the highest expression of love that Hiei could show Kuwabara is “idiot”, and the same goes for Kuwabara. The only point for the couple is that they truly respect each other, even if they don’t show it.
Conclusions: That’s definitely crack. Quite fun crack though XD
Name: Yukina
Yup, you read well… this would be an incest. ^^ There’s quite a number of fans of this pairing… Yukina’s the most important person for Hiei, this is sure… but do you think his love for her could -really- go beyond brotherly love? I don’t think so, but anyway this couple is very intriguing, because it’s a forbidden love… very angsty.
